As a freelance editor based in Texas, my main roles are checking texts for factual accuracy, grammatical correctness, narrative flow, structural soundness, and bringing the author’s voice to the forefront. Editing provides an opportunity for writers elevate the impact of their work. I’m passionate about my job and hold myself to high standards of accuracy, honesty, and fairness, though without the stuffiness one usually finds within the field. I love spending time with writers and helping turn their work into amazingness while making it a focus to maintain their unique voice and style, even if that means I have to throw a bit of wit and snark your way to get you moving. I’m not the kind to edit a story and leave you hanging— I’m available for brainstorming and talking with you to ensure you get the best experience and work from my time on your novel.
STYLE
I’m capable of working within any editing style of your choosing, though I have created my own blend of styles that better enhance both the author’s voice and the reading experience and it’s the default I use if no style is specified. I’m also proficient in editing both US and UK English and understand the subtleties of both.
RATES
My rates aim to be affordable for any writer, be they just starting or established.
*Content/developmental edits are billed at $0.005 per word ($100 per 20k words)
*Line edits are billed at $0.0035 per word ($70 per 20k words)
*Proofing/copy edits are billed at $0.0025 per word ($50 per 20k words)
Exceptions are only made when work will take more than 10 days due to egregious errors or intense story work, which is established by submission of 10 pages of work from the middle of the story and an added $75 is taken into account— discussed at length before settling on final price.
Payments are made through PayPal and are never full amount upfront— half before and half after is typical, though I’m more than willing to make payment schedules if needed.
